Crayola has a rich and meaningful heritage in creative products, particularly with their famous crayons – being a creative agency full of people who had been inspired by their products in our youth, we were excited to be creating new products and experiences with the brand.
Crayola identified an opportunity for a new automated drawing product with visually engaging movement, repeatable end results and extended creative play patterns. Designworks were commissioned to explore the character engagement, function and additional features of the product. At the front end of the project Designworks deployed our creative team who undertook rapid concept generation, focusing on suitable characters and styles that would appeal to the target age group.
Designworks’ product development team turned the vision into a reality by undertaking in-house rapid prototyping iterations, testing and fine refinement of data. The product has become a memorable kid’s favorite, with strong sales over a number of years.
Working with Crayola, Designworks has created several other products in their range including Doodle Doug and Doodle Daisy.
